Certification

Training certification and professional licence: what each one means

The Costa Rica 2026 edition awards two course certifications issued by European Security Academy. This page explains what they evidence and what they do not replace.

The actual scope of this edition's certifications

The programme's two certifications

Carbine Fundamentals, corresponding to the initial technical alignment block.

Personal Security Detail (PSD), corresponding to the five-day main phase.

What a course certification evidences

It evidences participation and assessed performance in a specific training programme, with its own content and criteria.

Assessment is continuous across the six days. Attendance does not guarantee certification: not every participant who attends will graduate as PSD.

What it does not replace

It does not replace the licence, registration or professional authorisation required by each country's regulations to perform protection duties or carry firearms.

It is not equivalent to a certification named CPO or to an Executive Protection certification; those terms appear on this site as industry context.

Verification by jurisdiction

Recognition of foreign training depends on each country. We recommend verifying requirements with the competent authority of the country where you intend to work.

The organisation does not process licences or professional authorisations in any country.
